Job Description

The Visual Arts & Technology program at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track position in Interactive Digital Media, to begin fall 2023. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following fields: physical computing, audio-visual performance, game design, interactive storytelling, creative programming, data visualization, web-based work, digital activism, artificial intelligence, machine learning, immersive theatre, creative human-computer interaction, and augmented and virtual reality. Creative practitioners from all backgrounds and communities are encouraged to apply.

We seek an enthusiastic educator and creative practitioner who can teach a range of classes. The ideal candidate will play a key role in defining the Interactive Digital Media curriculum within our program. We are most interested in an artist or designer engaged in contemporary practices and discourses of their field that can inform their teaching. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively with both artists and non-artists and is comfortable in an atmosphere devoted to research and teaching at the intersection of art, design, science, technology, and the humanities.

Responsibilities:

Teach an average of five courses per year, working with students across all levels of the undergraduate program; develop interactive digital media courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and research interest; maintain an active creative and/or research practice; mentor in professional practices and Capstone projects; advise majors and minors; participate in program, College, and university service; and assist with program growth and community engagement.

Minimum qualifications:

MFA in art or design, or a terminal degree in a related field

Demonstrated record of creative and professional achievement in the field

Ability to teach a range of Foundation courses

Collegiate level art and/or design teaching experience (beyond teaching assistantship)

Preferred Qualifications:

Terminal degree in Graphic Design or related field

Proven college teaching effectiveness

Ability to teach additional courses across the art and design curriculum

Experience mentoring students in professional practices and entrepreneurship.
