Job Description and Responsibilities:

Coherent is a world leader of lasers, optics, and sensors for scientific, precision manufacturing, life sciences, semiconductor manufacturing, entertainment and many other sectors of industry and government.

As an individual contributor, the Strategic Supply Chain Manager for Indirect Materials will be responsible for building and sustaining relationships with North America business leaders, with strategic suppliers that provide support to the business units, and counterparts on the Global Supply Chain team.

You will need to understand the short and long term strategies/goals for each of the relevant business units and Functional Leads (i.e. EH&S, Global Facilities, etc…) to identify, leverage, and implement global strategies. Business unit and Functional Lead support shall include but not be limited developing sourcing strategies, ensuring Corporate Indirect Suppliers meet performance goals for delivering materials and/or services, conducting business reviews, developing risk mitigation strategies, and negotiating supplier contracts working in conjunction with the business unit, legal department, and corporate finance.

You will also be instrumental in providing guidance on future opportunities, risks, and global trends to the relevant business units. Also key is the ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives, have strong negotiations skills, and executive level communication capabilities including presentation skills and keen email/conference call communication skills with counterparts in Europe, US and Asia.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead strategic/critical contract negotiations working with senior management in the business unit and the relevant Global Supply Chain Representative
  • Point of escalation for performance (quality & delivery) issues, site supplier terms & conditions and price issues
  • Supplier performance management utilizing the supplier scorecards
  • Periodic supplier business reviews for critical site suppliers
  • Regional cost saving initiatives in alignment with business unit goals
  • Implementation of inventory programs to minimize downtime and excess inventory
  • Supplier selection and qualification
  • Site AVL/ASL management.
  • Minimizes sole sources
  • Develops and implements business continuity plans for sole source suppliers
  • Support the implementation and training of procurement tools
  • Ensures regulatory compliance

Education and Work Experience:

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain Management or other closely related field
  • An MBA or related advanced degree or coursework is preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Supply Chain Management
  • Strong leadership, negotiations, and communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to build relationships horizontally and vertically within and outside of the company
  • A demonstrated ability to think strategically and systematically
  • Proficiency in the following skills is required: Multi cultural communication (phone calls, presentations, and emails), consensus building, leadership across multiple business units, resourceful in resolving supply crisis situations, and execution to scheduled/planned activities
  • The following skills and competencies are strongly preferred: Proficient level of gas, IT (hardware & software), facility equipment service & maintenance, and general facility material & service commodity experience, experienced in sourcing outside of the respective region, ability to conduct a financial benefit analysis factoring total cost of ownership, contract negotiations, contract management, and value based decision analysis
  • Fully competent in consensus building, team building, and resource planning and management.
  • Able to demonstrate openness, judgment and common sense, developing a winning customer strategy across multiple organizations, systemic thinking, and leadership
  • Demonstrate organizational values of integrity, respect for people, diversity appreciation, adherence to ethical standards, teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement
