We recruit top talent and are currently seeking a mid- to senior-level Civil Engineer to help establish an engineering design team in Northern Virginia.

Position Overview:

Although S&ME does not currently have a physical office in Northern Virginia, we are interested in starting one with a focus on civil engineering design. Initial job responsibilities will consist of working with senior engineers already located in Northern Virginia to execute local and regional work, with opportunities to participate in business development activities if you are so inclined. This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer with an entrepreneurial spirit to help shape the landscape of S&ME’s future growth.

The successful candidate will support a wide range of civil, geotechnical and environmental design projects for Energy, Industrial and Government clients including reservoirs, dams, pipelines, transmission, nuclear, landfills, mining, stormwater management, erosion control, and stream stabilization projects. Work will be executed both locally and regionally. Experience effectively executing project work with remote teams is required.

The ideal candidate has experience with planning and performing civil engineering design tasks including hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, grading plans, calculations, reports, technical specifications, etc. to support development of design, permit, and construction packages for industrial, energy, and municipal clients.

Key responsibilities will include technical leadership of projects, preparation of high-quality technical reports and deliverables, project management, coordination with clients and vendors, and mentoring junior staff. Ancillary responsibilities depending on availability and interest include business development, strategic growth planning, and potentially office/personnel management.

Qualified candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong work ethic and possess the ability to work as a team player. The successful candidate must be able to work with minimal direction after completing initial training.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering required;
  • MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering preferred;
  • 8+ years of experience, or 7+ years of experience with an MSCE;
  • PE licensure is required, PE licensure in Virginia is preferred but not required;
  • Experience working with local and remote teams is required;
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is required;
  • Experience with stormwater design software including HydroCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, and/or other software packages is required; and
  • Excellent computer skills and well-organized.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience.
