Every morning you wake up thinking “I hate my job!” Whether you’re job hunting or stuck indefinitely, this article will help you make the most of your work.
At some point in our lives, we all have to work at a job we hate. Maybe your hated job is just a part-time gig while you’re in school, or a stepping-stone to your dream job, or an entire career you’ve just fallen out of love with. Whether you’re going to quit your job as soon as you get your degree, are trying to get a new job, or are just plain stuck and not sure what to do with your life, this article will help you cope with the daily grind of showing up to that soul-sucking job you hate.
Identify the problem
Before you can take steps to solve your problem, you need to think about why you have a problem in the first place. Why is it such a chore to get up in the morning and drag yourself to work? Make a list of everything about the job you hate. If it helps, divide it into categories. Is it your supervisor who’s watching your every move, or your coworkers that you just don’t fit in with? Is there one particular person who you just can’t stand the thought of seeing almost every day? Or maybe it’s just boredom at doing the same exact thing every day.
Imagine yourself at your ideal job. Maybe it’s where you are working right now, with a few minor adjustments. Maybe you are far away, working in a completely different field. Or maybe you’re working from home. Start doing research on your dream job, and make a list of steps you need to take to get there. Find someone in the field you want to work in, and ask their advice on what steps you could take to get there.

Change your environment at work
If you’re having problems with a particular coworker, try to think of steps you could take to make your work environment more comfortable. Is there any way to avoid this coworker during the day? If you think it would help, try telling your supervisor you don’t feel comfortable working with this person, and see if there is anything she or he can do to help.
Do you hate your boss? If there is a specific problem or behavior that’s bothering you, you could try talking directly to your supervisor about it, or going to your Human Resources department. Keep an eye out for other positions open within your company. You may be able to transfer to another department and get a better supervisor.
If you’re bored at work, try asking for different or more work. Make your supervisor aware that you’re available for special assignments. Make a list of your skills that your job is not utilizing. If you’re searching for another job, you can add the new skills you learn to your resume. If your job is just plain boring and there’s nothing you can do about it, try distracting yourself from the drudgery. Try bringing in an iPod and listen to music or audio books while you work.
