About this Position:

The position ensures that Honda’s operations in North America are appropriately defended against all pre-litigation claims or suits alleging that AHM (or another Honda entity) has infringed the intellectual property of a third party, whether in the area of patent, copyright, trademark, or publicity rights. The litigation attorney for this position also protects Honda’s intellectual property rights against infringement by third parties by sending out claim letters, cease and desist letters, and, where necessary, filing suit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Make sure that the case is prepared for best resolution, whether trial or otherwise. In patent cases, this includes making sure that the case is ready for key hearings, such as by working with key in-house technical personnel to develop the case to obtain the best ruling possible
  • Manage and coordinate discovery and other substantive deadlines in the litigations, and manage and improve case management processes
  • Advise the company on strategies to reduce litigation risk in the context of its business. Develop countermeasures to eliminate or mitigate risks, such as by providing appropriate training to Honda personnel or, in the patent litigation area, monitor and recommend on the availability of potential patent assets for the company to purchase
  • Represent the company, as the client and company representative, in mediations and settlement negotiations

Who we are seeking:

Required Work Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience in IP litigation

Required Education:

  • JD from ABA-accredited law school and member in good standing of the bar of the state where practicing
  • Engineering or science background preferred for patent litigation
  • Registered patent attorney for patent litigation is highly preferred. However, exceptional experience in complex cases involving product technology may substitute for the need to be a registered patent attorney

Desired skills:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Capable of understanding complicated technology from various fields, including software, electrical engineering, and mechanical devices
