2023 Summer Intent for Camp K

Program Overview

Program: Camp K is an ACA Accredited Summer overnight Camp.

Location: Camp K is located in Copper Landing, AK on Kenai Lake.

Dates: Late May 2023 – Early August 2023

Staff Shifts: Camp K staff reside on camp premises during all camp sessions.

Activities: While at Camp K staff navigate youth through activities of hiking, boating activities, outdoor games, art building, target sports, outdoor living skills and team building; as well as horseback riding and river raft trips in nearby areas.

Positions at Camp K:

  • Lead Counselor
  • Works with other Leadership staff to assist the Camp K Summer Program Coordinator in the planning, facilitation, and supervision of camp program. Supervise counselors and specialized program areas, playing a key role in planning and presenting staff orientation, large group events, and special programs. Live on the premises of Camp during the summer season. Engage in work that supports Camp Fire’s Promise to provide youth with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice and discover who they are.
  • Counselor
  • This position is responsible for the minute-to-minute supervision and guidance of a cabin group of campers, working with other counselors and specialist to facilitate a variety of activities. Live on the premises of Camp K and work with other camp counselors to support and assigned group of cabins for weekly sessions during the summer season.
  • Teen Director
  • The Teen Director will work with other Leadership staff to assist the Camp K Summer Program Coordinator in the planning, facilitation, and supervision of camp program. You’ll have a great opportunity to build experience managing and running Camp K’s LiT (Leaders in Training) program for teens ages 15+. The Teen Director supervises counselors and specialized program areas, playing a key role in planning and presenting staff orientation, large group events, and special programs. The Teen Director will reside with campers in cabins on the premises of Camp K in the Chugach National Forest with epic beauty right outside your cabin door!
  • Teen Counselor
  • Responsible for the minute-to-minute supervision and guidance of a cabin group of older campers (ages 12+), working with other counselors and specialists to facilitate a variety of activities. Live on the premises of Camp K and work with other camp counselors to support an assigned group of cabins for weekly sessions during the summer season. Engage in work that supports Camp Fire’s Promise to provide youth with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice and discover who they are.
  • Creative Arts Core Counselor
  • The Creative Arts Core Counselor is responsible for 24-hour supervision of campers in their cabin group. They also provide oversight to the Camp K Creative Arts Program, which entails developing and teaching art activities for all age groups i.e. arts & crafts, drama, singing, music, acting, etc. In this position you’ll be supervising campers in all camp activities including meal times, games, choice activities, and sleeping. You’ll gain experience collaborating with program leadership to identify camp needs, develop/implement successful programming, and take part in the evaluations of the programs.
  • Target Sports Core Counselor
  • Provides oversight to the Camp K Target Sports Program, which entails instructing archery, riflery, blow-darts, sling-shots, and atlatl, and ensuring proper guidance and supervision of campers and staff during these activities. Live on the premises of Camp K and work with camp counselors to support an assigned group of cabins for weekly sessions during the summer season.
  • Lifeguard Counselor
  • This position is responsible for the 24-hour supervision and guidance of cabin group of campers, working with other counselors and specialists to facilitate a variety of activities. During waterfront activities, supervise staff and campers during swimming and boating lessons and activities. The person filling this position will live on the premises of Camp K and work with other camp counselors to support an assigned group of cabins for weekly sessions during the summer season.
  • Waterfront Core Counselor
  • This position provides oversight to the Camp K Aquatics Program, which entails instructing all lakeside activities, i.e. canoeing, kayaking, swimming, water survival skills on Kenai Lake, lifeguarding and supervising the lifeguard counselor. This person filling this position will live on the premises of Camp K and work with camp counselors to support an assigned group of cabins for weekly sessions during the summer season.
  • Kitchen Manager (cook)
  • This position provides oversight for a youth-focused food service program aimed at the provision of nutritious and appealing meals in a safe and clean environment. Supervise kitchen staff of 2-4 employees. Live on the premises of Camp K during the summers season.
  • Kitchen Assistant
  • This position supports the Kitchen Manager in youth focused food service program aimed at the provision of nutritious and appealing meals in a safe and clean environment (food preparation, inventory, dishwashing and cleaning). Live on premises of Camp K during the summer season.
  • Outdoor Living Skills Core Counselor
  • The OLS Core Counselor is responsible for 24-hour supervision of campers in their cabin group. They also provide oversight to the Outdoor Living Skills (OLS) Program, which entails developing and teaching nature, outdoor education, and outdoor living skills activities such as; shelter building, fire building, camping/backpacking, outdoor cooking, etc. In this position you’ll be supervising campers in all camp activities including meal times, games, choice activities, and sleeping. You’ll gain experience collaborating with program leadership to identify camp needs, develop/implement successful programming, and take part in the evaluations of the programs. Through this position, you’ll reside with campers in cabins on the premises of Camp K in the Chugach National Forest with epic beauty right outside your cabin door!
  • Camp Health Director
  • The Camp Health Director will oversee and manage the healthcare needs of Camp K participants and staff to include contributing to the implementation of COVID-19 mitigation plans while living on the camp premises. A typical day in this position will include reviewing health histories, dispensing medications, respond to first aid needs, mental health needs of campers and staff, monitor the COVID-19 policies and procedures, developing a stocking system for medical supplies, administrative duties, communication with guests and staff, develop and lead staff training on camp health and safety issues, adhere to ACA standards and CFA policies. all while living in the Chugach National Forest with everyday opportunities to be off the grid, experience wildlife, and take in the epic beauty right outside your cabin door!
