Atlas: DIY has lawyers on staff to assist members with free immigration legal assistance. Whether you are undocumented or adjusting your status, in deportation proceedings or filing an affirmative case, we are here to assist you. Our lawyers provide services free of cost in English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Types of cases we handle include: DACA, SIJS, T Visa, U Visa, VAWA, Citizenship and Green Card Applications.
In order for a person to access legal services, the young person must first become a member of Atlas on any given Friday between the hours of 11 am – 5 pm or Sunday from 2 pm- 5 pm. At this time, the young person will also learn about the various services and programs that are available at Atlas, in addition to the legal services (these include college club, yoga classes, ESL classes, and a support group for Spanish-speaking young men who recently arrived in the U.S. on their own). Every Atlas member is guaranteed a legal intake with one of our immigration attorneys if they so desire, so long as the young person then completes two hours of volunteer work, and continues to complete their monthly obligation leading up to their appointment.
Once the member’s hours have been completed, he or she will receive an appointment with one of our attorneys for a legal intake to screen for all forms of immigration relief. If the Atlas attorney finds that the young person may qualify for a type of immigration relief that we do at Atlas, we will take the case. If we cannot provide the legal services the member needs at Atlas, we will make a proper referral to another legal services organization for representation.
