# 6 was our first and possibly last meeting taking place in a bar/cafe at 9 PM on a weekday. We huddled together over one round table while wondering why hasn’t the person next-table returned yet. This mysterious person left behind a book, bowl of soup, and his backpack. The problem was (s)he’s been gone for over half an hour. We began our meeting by politely taking his table’s extra seat and table-space.
Our official meeting began with Daniel, who used to be a High School social studies teacher. Why care? Because he is not only a Skadden Fellow like Lauren, but also is interested in helping us get incorporated! There are legal benefits to getting incorporated, which means we are recognized as a legal person. The benefits include:
To do so, we need to apply, set up a constitution and bylaws. While all of this can be theoretically done by Atlas, it is much easier to have an experienced lawyer. Daniel works with Brooklyn Legal Services and he is a candidate to be a lawyer for Atlas!
After Daniel left, we discussed Atlas’s first-ever retreat on April 9th! What are we going to do? Not sure yet, but it going to be a blast!
note: the mysterious person was an ordinary young bearded man. While the suspense was killing us, his much-waited arrival wasn’t much of a climax.
See you next time on Inside Scoops!
