CUNY’s and the Daily News annual Citizenship Now! Hot line provides services to anyone who has an immigration-related question. It will be available until April 27 from 9am to 7p. Volunteers will be taking calls about any immigration issue, and best of all, IT IS CONFIDENTIAL! This annual event has been around since 1997. It is organized by Allan Wernick, an immigration attorney and many volunteer participants. Most volunteers speak more than one language (Spanish, English, Mandarin, French and many more).
Each year the number of volunteers increases as the number of calls increases. Volunteers are trained by CUNY’s Citizenship Now!, but most are immigration lawyers, advocates, or members of the CUNY/NYC Citizenship Now! Volunteer Crops.
This is a great way to have your questions answered. Please, if you have any questions about an immigration issue, feel free to call the Citizenship Now! Hot line. For English, call: (212) 857-6221, or for Spanish, dial: (212) 857-6225. For the hearing-impaired the TTY/TTD number is 212-221-2465.
