Last week Florida passed the SB2040 Bill proposed by Sen. Anitere Flores. The bill is similar to Arizona’s SB1070 Bill. The SB2040 Bill requires the companies to (a) use the E-Verify employment verification system to hire employers or (b) scan an ID card that has been in use since January 2010 and approved by the Federal Real ID program. It would allow law enforcement agencies to check immigration status and enforce immigration laws. Its allows them to share fingerprints and other important information with federal immigration authorities. The SB2040 is also allowing Florida’s cost of undocumented immigrants to be researched, which will be billed to the federal government.
The SB2040 is going to spread more terror among the community just like the SB1070, Secure Communities and other anti-immigration laws. It is also allows racial profiling because it is targeting Latinos just like the SB1070 in Arizona. The SB2040 is unfair, as it targets immigrants that might not be causing any harm to anybody. Not all immigrants are criminals, most of them are hard-working people who only seek for a better future in this country.
