My Life in Immigration Limbo

Back home in Buga, Colombia, my mom had a hard time finding a stable job, so she left me with my brother’s father in 1999 [and went] to find work in the United States. After one year of living with my brother’s father, I moved in with an aunt until my mom was able to afford to fly me to be with her in New York in 2001.
