Quotes from "Little Bee"

I often shy away from books about the “refugee experience” or the “immigrant experience” because, working with the most incredible people and most inspiring stories every day often leaves me to explore romantic tales of time travel or dystopian maniacal futures in my explorations of the fiction world but something about the cover of Little Bee by Chris Cleave drew me in and, though I am not yet all the way through and thus cannot really write a full review, I just have to share!

So, I introduce you to my own little section, “quotes from Little Bee.” Today’s exploration is below.

Truly there is no flag for us floating people. We are millions, but we are not a nation. We cannot stay together. Maybe we get together in ones and twos, for a day or a month or even a year, but then the wind changes and carries the hope away. Death came and I left in fear. Now all i have is my shame and the memory of bright colors and the echo of Yvette’s laugh. Sometimes I feel lonely as the Queen of England.

All my love to all those feeling the same,

Lauren
