What We Missed (2/2-2/9)

Oh how the time flies…

Reuters reported what we at Atlas DIY noticed quite a while ago: Evangelicals are huge supporters of immigration reform. With rising Hispanic evangelical church-goers, evangelicals have been one of the loudest groups supporting passionate immigration reform.

A study on link between immigration and entrepreneurship found the number of new tech start-ups founded by immigrant owners decreased slightly from 2006-2013. This decrease may be linked to tighter immigration policies within the United States.

The New York Times reports House Republicans met to discuss immigration reform earlier this week in a meeting in which major players said they would be open to reform, but not to citizenship for the currently undocumented.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said he would support measures to provide citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants in an interview with NBC News.

In a reversal of its previous position (after facing heavy criticism from the immigrant community and their allies), Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson (R) announced deferred action recipients will be allowed to drive in Michigan!

John McCain has reemerged on the national political radar as a proponent of compassionate immigration reform – including a pathway to citizenship for those currently undocumented! McCain to the rest of GOP: “If not citizenship, what do you want to do with them?”

Two new forms of the E-Verify Bill were introduced into congress earlier this week: H.R. 478 and S. 202.
