WOW! Atlas: DIY has been open for six weeks and it has been the most invigorating, inspiring, immigrant-initiative packed moments of our lives! Apologies for the lack of posts since we’ve been up and running but saying we’ve been swamped would be an understatement! Here’s just a few of the things we have been up to:
Registered more than 35 members from over 15 different countries!
Our LEAP interns have teamed with RAP to discuss social inequality and learn their rights.
We have stretched our minds and bodies with Lorrie and Brian and danced our feet off with Erin
Jean and Nick taught us to draw shadows and light while Mun Yin and Lillian used magazines for self expression.
We’ve learned LOTS and LOTS of English with Caton and Song
College club now takes place every Monday afternoon
Activist lawyers Leah and Tom came all the way from Atlanta to teach us about fighting for worker’s rights!
Our legal cases are being handled with grace and intelligence by Jesse, Rochelle, and Lauren
Finally, more than FIFTY peer to peer hours have been completed and we’ve learned to knit, how to take the SAT, how to write Chinese characters, and how to fix broken cabinets from our members.
Here is a brief slideshow of all we’ve been up to! We hope you will join us as we continue to learn, share, advocate and inspire!
