Congratulations to ATLAS! (Yes, we are patting ourselves on the back.) ATLAS has been granted its first grant of $9500 from Sparkplug (see Meeting Five to when we first began discussing this grant). This was our very first grant application, and we received an award at first-try. Not only is this rare, it is also a good omen, if you will, of the success of our organization. We are especially lucky because ” [Sparkplug] has been temporarily suspended as [they] undergo some much-needed reorganization.” We were at limbo at the discovery of this news. Fortunately, ATLAS was one of the last applications considered, and ATLAS was one of the few that won!
In the spirit of fundraising, we also had our second Tag Sale ( see Meeting Nine to learn about our first fundraising event). This summer, we’ve managed to raise a couple of thousands of dollars and dozens of contacts. The first eight months of finding Atlas has been awe-inspiring. We have accomplished so much, which includes building a board from scratch, petitioning to start this NGO, creating an outlet to reach the public, holding fundraisers, meeting with potential board members, and winning our first grant.
Four Months to Launching ATLAS
The upcoming months are filled with anticipation and hard work. We have yet to win another grant, with which we can buy the space for organization. Expect mass communication with prospective members, volunteers, and staff; fundraising through creative media such as kickstarter; outreach work regarding immigration; alliances with other advocacy groups; and much more!
