Were you born in another country and don’t have a copy of your birth certificate? A recent Atlas member had that same experience and came to Atlas seeking help! Read below to discover what she learned so you can DIY!
During my experience at Atlas, I have found that there are ways to pursue a search for a birth certificate from a foreign country. I became a member at Atlas and couldn’t say how much it has benefited me as well as others apart of ATLAS.
In the process of trying to figure out if I ever did have a birth certficate or not, we first contacted the consulate from the foreign country where I was born. After the first attempt of trying to reach the consulate, we were unable to get a hold of them.
While awaiting to reach the consulate of my country, Atlas lawyers told me about the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request (get a copy of the form here) that can be processed through the USCIS, which was at no cost and would provide me with all the records that the USCIS would have in file for me.
I also learned that contacting your previous schools can provide you with records that may include important documents that may be beneficial.
Our member is now empowered and educated and we are so happy she is passing on the knowledge to others! As she states:
I am so happy to say that my search for a recocrd of my birth certificate is so far progressing and will provide me with better answers upon my requests. I am proud to be a member at Atlas, as sharing new ideas and helping others reach their goals is a primary concern and ideal.
