Atlas: DIY’s mentoring program is a program that we’ve created that allows young undocumented and immigrant students to pair up with mentors who are already succeeding in their chosen career field. Prisma’s mentor is Sharon, a former CUNY Law student. Here is an update from Prisma:
Hi guys!
My name is Prisma Herrera and I am a member of Atlas as well as a mentee in the mentoring program at Atlas. In November my mentor Sharon and I went to do yoga at Yoga to the People. It was awesome! I have done yoga in the past but this was hardcore. Before going to yoga Sharon and I were talking and getting to know each other in the process. I found out that she was a law student at CUNY Law School. She loves to run and be very fit. It was really fun going to do yoga because I was able to work out and at the same time I was going with my mentor. In December we went out to just talk. In a little coffee shop eating cake it was a very relaxing atmosphere. Talking about college, because I had gotten into college recently (Scripps Class of 2018J), her travels etc. This is a wonderful program because I am able to de-stress once a month and talk to someone about my hope and dreams for my future. Can’t wait for January!
